LiderA 2019 Conference
Enhancing the pursuit of sustainability in construction
The LiderA 2019 Conference took place on February 6th, focusing on enhancing the pursuit of sustainability in construction (by developers and users), particularly in how decisions can contribute to this goal, as highlighted by the new version of LiderA.
Built environments represent a significant investment for both the public and private sectors, as well as for families. Decisions made regarding development areas, projects, and adopted solutions have long-term impacts on comfort, health, safety, and performance, often for many years. The design of a new building or even a renovation project has a time horizon that can extend up to 50 years.
The challenges, available solutions, and requirements have evolved, making it increasingly important to adopt solutions that consider the cultural and aesthetic dimensions, as well as environmental, social, and economic performance—that is, the pursuit of sustainability. Sustainability assessment and certification systems, such as LiderA, can play a key role in supporting decision-making when selecting solutions, determining the level of performance desired, and independently demonstrating this performance to the market.
The conference addressed the following four subthemes:
- Sustainability challenges for LiderA in rehabilitation and new urban developments;
- Comfortable, safe, high-performance, and resilient buildings;
- LiderA v.4 – the new version (products, buildings, developments, areas, and sustainable tourist destinations);
- Opportunities to create economic, social, and environmental value.

LiderA 2013 Conference
Sustainable urban acupuncture, in urban regeneration and tourism!
The LiderA 2013 Congress presented and analyzed interventions that, from the sustainability perspective, align with the logic of the mathematician/engineer Archimedes, who said, “Give me a lever and a fulcrum, and I will move the world.”
Thus, at a time when it is essential for interventions to contribute to driving the sustainable development dynamic, the theme of the congress was sustainable urban acupuncture, particularly interventions that create a dynamic in the pursuit of sustainability and help create and ensure value.
Throughout the congress, the following topics were discussed: (1) developments of LiderA between 2012 and 2013, (2) sustainable urban regeneration interventions, (3) tourism, creating sustainable destinations and ensuring clients, and (4) debating partnerships to create a dynamic of value through sustainability.
